Located in Epping, our school caters to boys and girls aged 3-16 with a diverse range of additional needs associated with low to high support autism, social, emotional, and mental health challenges. As a small school, we embrace a restorative and therapeutic approach to education and behavior management.
As a SEN Teaching Assistant in this environment, you will work in small classes of 4-6 pupils, with a staff-to-student ratio of 1:1. The school has recently achieved a "good" rating in key categories such as leadership, management, and behavior.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide assistance and supervision for students before, during, and after lessons
Support students in understanding and engaging with set tasks appropriately
Assist with note-taking and support literacy and numeracy development
Work with the whole class, small groups, or individual learners
Encourage the development of appropriate social skills
Maintain accurate records for individual students
Foster confidence and motivation
Participate in team meetings and training programs as an active team member
Collaborate with managers and colleagues to cultivate a positive organizational culture
Adhere to safeguarding regulationsQualifications and Skills:
Undergraduate degree (preferable) and/or previous personal, voluntary, or paid experience in SEN
Strong foundational knowledge in English and Mathematics
Familiarity, keen interest, or understanding of various learning and behavioral needs (SEMH, AP/PRU)
Ability to adapt to diverse working environments and students with differing abilities and unpredictable behaviors
Collaborative working style
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
