Pastoral Support Assistant – Psychology Graduates
A brilliant Secondary School in Merton are looking for a Pastoral Support Assistant to support staff and students whilst promoting a safe environment with excellent levels of behaviour so everyone is entitled to learn. To overcome barriers to learning using a range of techniques, including pupil counselling, focusing on the academic, social and emotional wellbeing of the pupils.

ASAP Start once correct safeguarding checks are completedResponsibilities of a Pastoral Support Assistant
Contributing to the development of the School Behaviour Policy
Monitoring the academic, social and emotional wellbeing of pupils in Year 7-13
Liaising with parents, agencies and attending meetings as appropriate
Promoting positive values, attitudes and good student behaviour by being a great role model for the pupils
Managing pupils who are showing socially unacceptable or challenging behaviour
Establishing productive working relationships with pupils using various methods to encourage pupil engagement and participation
Maintaining daily contact with assigned pupils to support, assist and enable them to meet the targets set and develop the attitude and skills to meet targets with less supportAn Ideal Pastoral Support Assistant will have:
Qualifications to degree level or equivalent
Knowledge of SEND and the various barriers to learning
Some knowledge of strategies in working with young people with challenging behaviours
Knowledge of some of the social issues facing students from disadvantaged backgrounds
Awareness of Health and Safety issues in a school environment
Good interpersonal and communication skills, with an excellent standard of written and spoken EnglishNext Steps
