Engineering Estimator graduate engineer looking for first / second role.

Our client is a manufacturing company based in Basingstoke and we are looking to strength their engineering team by recruiting an Engineering Estimator.

This is a material sourcing and costing role, requiring the ability to deal with day-to-day RFQ’s , material sourcing and problem solving.

Close co-operation with key suppliers to ensure correct and accurate competitive pricing is being achieved.

The Estimator will be responsible for understanding what activities are happening in the business which could create an opportunity within the portfolio to save money or add value, and then ensuring that procurement take an active, early and appropriate role when the order has been placed by the customer.

The Estimator will be responsible for proactively identifying and delivering savings and added value from the portfolio and reporting all the benefits achieved by the team and by others in supplier facing actions.

The focus will be product cost, availability, quality and delivery.

Duties to include:

Benchmark activities to create/maintain world-class supply base.

Create commodity strategies using cost, quality & technology.

Develop & maintain full service suppliers capable of meeting targets.

Daily management of suppliers; delivery performance; quality; lead time reduction.

Explore & develop low cost sourcing suppliers

Support Sales department on estimating of material for quotation.

Drive continuous improvement philosophy into the supply base

Co-lead Quality meetings with suppliers, along with Materials & Quality Managers.

Identify high-risk suppliers.

Ensure supplier performance is met through available reporting means.

Drive supplier performance to meet annual cost reduction targets.

Operate within company policies and procedures learning and perfecting the clients estimating and IT systems.

Utilise, operate and own all required metrics.

Support placing orders using MRP and Kanban orders when required.

Progressing orders & assisting in resolving vendor quality issues.

Data Integrity / Maintenance of records
New Supplier Evaluation / Benchmarking

Key skills include

Understanding of MRP and Kanban

Estimating & Support Buying experience of electro/mechanical commodities.

Good interpersonal & communication skills, both written and verbal.

Good problem solving capability.

High levels of self motivation.

Strong negotiation skills.

Good IT skills and good Excel.

Be very analytically minded.

Demonstrable commercial business awareness.

Ability to work under pressure and use own initiative.

Ideally we would like the person to have an understanding of the electronics procurement marketplace, but we will consider a person from a mechanical engineering background.

Highly motivated with sound commercial and team skills.

Able to sustain effective relationships with internal customers.

The role is based at the head office in Basingstoke, but there will be some travel to regional office sites and supplier visits.

The company is looking a recruiting a graduate engineer that is looking ofr their first opportunity within an engineering company.

We are looking at electrical / electronics or Mechanical engineering graduates or HNC college leavers.

Ideally we want some one that is already based in and around the surrounding area's of Basingsoke.
