This is an excellent opportunity for a Graduate or Junior Packaging Technologist that has a degree in Product Design, Packaging Design or similar. The successful Packaging Technologist will be working for an FMCG company in the exciting industry of Health and Beauty and full training is given for this role.
For a Graduate the salary starts at £22,832 and is assessed every 6 months where a significant increase in salary is given. Our client may also consider a slightly more experienced Packaging Technologist where the salary being offered will be competitive. This role is office based in Peterborough.
You will be joining the Packaging Team in a rapidly growing business to positively impact their business through sustainable packaging solutions.
The fast-paced environment of the Health & Beauty industry means that this role will develop constantly with new focuses and targets. With many retailers publishing Sustainability Targets and the Government introducing the UK Plastics tax there is plenty of opportunity to help positively impact the business and influence the decisions we make as a business.
Role Objective:
·Develop functional packaging for new and existing products taking into consideration cost, quality and production efficiency.
·Develop fit for purpose packaging through robust pack testing and line trials.
·Develop and issue comprehensive technical component specifications.
·Brief suppliers on componentry prototypes and request samples.
·Advise the commercial team on technical and print specifications required to manage expectations and help support customer briefs.
·Work closely with the buying team to encourage suppliers to present new and innovative packaging solutions.
·Review and approve technical drawings, artwork, and printer proofs.
·Generate cutter guides and gain production approval.
·Approve BOMs, change notes and manufacturing specifications.
·Analyse the root cause of any issues and implement change procedures to ensure no repeats.
·Work collaboratively with key stakeholders: Production Engineers / Production Supervisors / Commercial Stakeholders (to ensure customers’ expectations are managed).
·Research, summarise and present innovative and sustainable packaging solutions to commercial colleagues and the wider business. Build and maintain a database of required sustainability certificates from componentry supply base.
·Collate information and analyse current trends in the packaging industry in relation to sustainability.
·Summarise and present current trends monthly to the Packaging Team and wider business.
·Conduct packaging specific testing to validate any new sustainable packaging solutions to ensure they are fit for purpose.
·Attend packaging trade fairs and suppliers to review new trends and innovation.
·Stay up to date with the latest developments in UK and global recycling requirements.
·Support with packaging waste submissions
Person specification and Qualifications:
·Degree level qualifications in a product/ packaging/ design or similar background.
·Desire to make a real difference and have a positive impact on the business’s future.
·You’ll have excellent research skills to constantly review and monitor trends and packaging in the marketplace.
·Be able to prioritise, plan and organise workloads whilst in a busy environment.
