Role: Graduate Material Scientist
Location: Holmes Chapel, Cheshire
Duration: 3-month temp to permanent
This role will have you working as part of a small but highly motivated and dynamic team. They are looking to expand rapidly at their Centre of Excellence based in North Cheshire, and they can only achieve this with an aggressive development programme.
Temporary contract: 3 months, with a view to making a permanent position for the right candidate.
Our new material scientist will have the opportunity to work for a fast-growing company in an exciting battery market. You will be part of the team responsible for developing new innovative products and improving existing products and processes.
Fundamentally you'll get to research new materials and processes, follow up with prototyping and validation testing and assessing performance ensuring this companies state-of-the-art products perform optimally under harsh conditions.
Responsibilities:
* Design experiments to investigate effect of material properties on e.g. adhesion and corrosion resistance.
* Develop understanding of material modifications and next-generation targets.
* Data handling and processing with accuracy and attention to detail.
* Reporting of technical data – presenting in weekly R&D review meetings.
* Interact with internal and external stakeholders and suppliers.
* Support development, commercial and operational teams – contribute to technical discussions.
Requirements:
* 1-3 years of materials testing experience, either in an academic or industrial setting.
* Knowledge of materials compatibility and stability.
* Understanding of risk assessments and COSHH, with experience handling hazardous chemicals.
* Self-motivated and innovative worker. Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Desirable:
* Degree in materials science or related field.
* Experience with polymer adhesion.
* Experience of materials research for energy storage applications.
* Experience with DoE
