Assistant Highway Engineer needed in Greater Manchester for a large county council framework. Opportunity for a graduate with 1yrs+ industry experience to work with an International consultancy who not only has numerous county council frameworks, but future RTM H.E and large D&B schemes throughout the country.

You'll be reporting to senior engineer and will be required to undertake hands on design for Highways projects. The successful applicants will be responsible for the delivery of technical outputs of projects or service areas for projects and work within a well-established team.

The role will give you the opportunity to work on key highway improvement and infrastructure schemes in the North West. You will gain experience in main management systems & processes in highway alignment (links, junctions & roundabouts), pavement and drainage design

Main Duties and Responsibilities

You will undertake the feasibility studies, conceptual, preliminary and detailed design, procurement and supervision of the construction of a range of civil engineering and highway projects.

You will have a working knowledge and understanding of the relevant legislation, standards and procedures. Possess an extensive working knowledge of standard highway and civil engineering specifications, conditions of contract and methods of measurement.

You will be required to liaise with Clients, Stakeholders, and the public on projects.

You will be able to demonstrate recent experience in the following:

The ability to deal appropriately and effectively with external organisations statutory bodies and clients;

Undertaking feasibility studies including preparing reports, cost estimate investigating problems, and identifying of options;

Working knowledge of the relevant legislation and guidelines including the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges, British and European Standards, Eurocodes and Codes of Practice;

To demonstrate initiative and ingenuity in solving engineering problems;

Working capability to use AutoCAD software in the preparation of designs and drawings.

Qualifications

Graduate – MEng (Hons)/ BEng (Hons) / BSc Civil Engineering (or equivalent)

Assistant – HND Civil Engineering (or equivalent) and or as above

Working towards professional membership (IEng/CEng MICE or MCIHT); demonstrable with “live” CPD / DAP and current membership / training scheme commitments.
