The company

My client are Europe's most trusted analytics and data management experts. They deliver technology strategy and support for businesses who need to get the most from their data.

They are Europe's number one provider of database strategy in the Retail, Financial services and Technology industries. Data is at the core of what they do, and their expert team hold more Microsoft certifications than any other data platform specialist in Europe!

They are passionate about sharing their knowledge and expertise to help their clients become industry leaders. They work closely with clients to create a technology strategy that suits their business and provide mission-critical support as and when they need it.

By doing this they are able to reduce risk and optimise investments to build scalable and robust solutions that deliver real business value to their clients.

They are a Microsoft Gold Partner for Data Platform, Data Analytics and Cloud Platform. They work collaboratively to improve project outcomes and develop deeper knowledge and appreciation of Microsoft technologies, improving our customers’ experience.

They are now looking to recruit a small number of outstanding graduates from STEM courses to join their graduate programme starting in July 2019.

The role

This Programme is for graduates looking to gain an insight into the world of a SQL Server professional. As a Data Platform Specialist, you will be part of a high performing team (Dedicated Support Team) who are committed to nurturing client data solutions and proactively resolving issues to ensure systems run at their peak.

If successful you will begin your time within the business on an accelerated learning programme where you will immerse yourself in the world of Microsoft data, analytics and cloud. Training is delivered through a combination of instructor-led training, self-study and mentoring to achieve the right blend of theory, hands-on and practical support and you will have opportunity to work alongside and learn from expert engineers and consultants, so you can grow your knowledge, experience and confidence.

The work is ticket based meaning you will work with a range of clients on a variety of different technologies. You could start your day looking into why a database transaction log grew the previous night which lead to a disk space issue. You could end your day looking into that T-SQL script that a customer has reported to be running slower than normal. Day to day you’ll be:

• Troubleshooting technical issues and finding the root cause

• Designing, proposing and implementing solutions

• Undertaking performance analysis and tuning

• Proactively assessing customers’ environments to identify opportunities for improvement

Because the business supports a wide range of SQL environments, the SQL Server issues that you encounter every day are so diverse. You will be supporting a variety of customer solutions built on (to name a few):

• Microsoft Data Platform

• Microsoft Azure

• Power BI / Machine Learning

• Windows / Linux

You are not expected to be a technical expert on joining the business, but you must have a strong interest in technology and be willing to learn. This is a client facing role where having a passion for customer service is as important as your technical abilities. You’re not just simply fixing technical issues but inspiring confidence and removing the threat of system failure. Therefore, communication skills are paramount, and you’ll need to be able to communicate technical issues and solutions.

The business invests heavily in the development of their SQL Server professionals, be it through access to learning sites, in-house development sessions, and to external SQL gatherings. Every week, each employee gets a half a day of personal development which most of them choose to use for study for the SQL Server-related MCSA and MCSE exams.

Requirements

* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from a STEM background

* Collaborative team player with the ability to work independently

* Natural problem solver – You’re happiest when unravelling problems to find their root cause and putting them right

* Exceptional communication abilities both verbal and written and have the mental agility to balance several jobs at the same time

If you feel like this opportunity is for you then please apply with your CV and a brief cover letter outlining your motivations
