Are you a criminology graduate with a passion for making a difference in the lives of children? This role offers a unique opportunity to work in a specialist school catering to children with mid to low cognitive function, with a specific focus on Autism and Low Support Autism, Social, Emotional, and Mental Health challenges. The school actively promotes new therapies, understanding the importance of foundational experience for graduates before pursuing further education or an MSc.
The school places a high emphasis on supporting students with Autism across its satellite schools. Key and personal skills development is essential for these students, ranging from accounting and budgeting to CV writing and cooking skills. The cognitive abilities of the students vary, and your role will involve tailoring your approach to meet their individual needs.
If you aspire to pursue a career as a Youth/Criminal Justice Officer, Art Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Music Therapist, Speech and Language Therapist, or Physiotherapist, this SEN Teaching Assistant role can provide valuable experience. It will help you qualify and disqualify different aspects of SEN, mental health, social justice, and youth justice, among other areas.

School Details:
Hours: 8:30 AM to 3:45 PM, Monday to Friday (term time only)
Ensuring student safety and prioritizing safeguarding in all aspects of your role
A diverse school community where each child's context and home-life situation may differ significantly, requiring a patient and nuanced approach to their Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP)
Utilizing a range of therapies and holistic processes to enhance the lives of the children
Making a positive impact on students' lives every day
Willingness to work with students both on a one-on-one basis and in small groups, with class sizes typically ranging from 3 to 6 students
Emphasizing the importance of building comfortable relationships before focusing on academic attainment
Required qualifications: GCSE English and Mathematics with C/5 grades, as you will be working with some high-functioning students
Experience working with autistic children, including those with pervasive development disorder
Attendance at staff meetings and completion of appropriate Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
