Are you driven to make a real difference in the lives of young people? Can you build a strong and productive relationship with students that leads them to succeed academically and positively impact their future? If you possess sincere empathy and have a genuine desire to support children and vulnerable individuals who have experienced trauma and setbacks, this role as an Aspiring Youth Justice Officer offers a unique opportunity to change lives.
At GSL, we understand the importance of sincerity in advocacy, particularly in the fields of mental health and special educational needs. By joining our team, you will have the chance to witness firsthand how mental health and autism can manifest differently in girls and boys, highlighting the socio-economic and anthropological aspects that shape their experiences.
We recognize that each candidate may have different motivations for entering the Criminal Justice sector. It is crucial for us to explore these areas together, ensuring that we qualify and disqualify the right opportunities for you. This role will provide a practical foundation for your future growth within Mental Health, Social Justice, Youth Justice, or Outreach sectors.
Our school places value on restorative and empathetic practices, recognizing that empathy fosters connection—an essential aspect that vulnerable children, who have endured significant trauma, truly respond to. We seek to establish genuine connections with students, offering support and guidance rather than pity and sympathy.
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a pivotal role in your students' lives. Two key questions should guide your interactions with them:
Can you make the student's life a little better today while ensuring their safety?
Can you demonstrate the value of education to your students? It is essential that you have the ability to both qualify and disqualify the SEN and Mental Health sectors for yourself. This SEN Teaching Assistant role is based in an Alternative Provision for boys and girls aged 7-17 with an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) for Low Support Autism, Social, Emotional, and Mental Health challenges. Some of the children may display anti-social behavior towards staff and peers.
Key aim – Delivering Key and Personal skills to students who vary in engagement levels, helping to raise their academic attainment through a restorative approach.
Please be advised that this role requires strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection, and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS on the update service.
