Same Job on multiple sites? Graduate job sites explained.
When browsing graduate job sites it’s very common to find the same job on multiple sites. There are 2 major reasons for this.
1. Some Graduate Job Sites pull feeds from other job boards. An example of this is Indeed.com. Companies can no longer submit individual jobs. The appearance of Indeed is like Google, but very different. They don’t crawl the internet, but rather other job sites and recruitment agencies submit their feeds.
2. Employers post jobs on several graduate job sites. They also use recruiting software and have accounts with multiple job sites. With this software employers can upload their job in one online dashboard and submit it to multiple job sites in the click of a button.
Should I only use search sites fed by other graduate job sites?
Unfortunately it’s not that easy. We certainly advise checking multiple sources. Although sites like Indeed get a lot of posts from other graduate job sites, not all job sites use these sites. They also don’t always post all of their jobs and aren’t always perfectly up to date.
Top Tips for using Graduate job sites.
Search & Register with Graduate Job Sites. The best way to get your name out there quickly. You might get the occasional irrelevant phone call but hey isn’t it worth it if you find your perfect job. They’ll distribute or make your CV visible to 1000s of employers & agencies. Signing up to job alerts is also a great way to keep up to date with the latest vacancies. We advise that you sign up to a mixture of large generalist and smaller niche career specific ones as well as CV databases.
Include Keywords in your CV. When Recruitment Agencies & Employers search for CVs on graduate job sites they do this largely by keywords. So it’s really important to get everything down and use as many different words as possible. eg if you’re a software engineer makesure you list everything like c++, Java etc or if you’ve presented mention you’ve presented using Powerpoint or Keynote.
Sign up to job alerts with graduate job sites. Job alerts are great. You can specify jobs for you on your chosen graduate job site and every day you can receive a digest of jobs by email. Some employers will work quickly, on a first come first serve basis. So applying early can be the difference between winning and losing!
Don’t make the mistake of putting your CV online and thinking the jobs will come to you. Especially within graduate recruitment you are largely going to have to go to them.
With some sites such as check4jobs you can register once and get automatically registered on multiple Career sites.
